Your First Auto Loan Starts Here
Buying your first vehicle is exciting—but financing it can feel overwhelming if you have little or no credit history. Circle Federal Credit Union's Smart Start Auto Loan Program is designed to help first-time borrowers get behind the wheel while building a strong financial foundation.
Whether you're purchasing your first car after high school or college, or you've simply never financed a vehicle before, Smart Start provides an opportunity to qualify for financing with responsible borrowing and affordable terms.
Who Is the Smart Start Auto Loan Designed For?
The Smart Start Auto Loan Program is intended for members who:
- Are purchasing or financing their first vehicle
- Have little to no established credit history
- Have not previously financed an automobile
- Have no derogatory credit history
- Want the opportunity to qualify without a co-borrower
Rather than focusing solely on an extensive credit history, the program considers your overall financial profile and your relationship with Circle FCU.
How to Qualify
To qualify for the Smart Start Auto Loan Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Maximum loan amount is $15,000
- Must be a member of Circle Federal Credit Union for at least 2 years with an active account
- Must have sufficient income to qualify for the loan
- Must have 20% down
Vehicles with salvage titles are not eligible for financing through this program.
Down Payment Requirements
A 20% down payment helps reduce the total amount financed and demonstrates your investment in the purchase.
| Vehicle Purchase Price | 20% Down Payment | Estimated Loan Amount* |
| $10,000 | $2,000 | $8,000 |
| $12,500 | $2,500 | $10,000 |
| $15,000 | $3,000 | $12,000 |

Optional Loan Protection
Eligible borrowers may choose to add optional protection products, including:
- Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP)
- Vehicle Service Warranty coverage
These optional products may be financed with your loan and do not count toward the required down payment, subject to program guidelines.
Why Building Credit Matters
Your first auto loan can become an important step toward long-term financial success.
A positive payment history may help you:
- Improve your credit score over time
- Qualify for lower interest rates in the future
- Build stronger borrowing power
- Establish financial independence
Making every payment on time is one of the most effective ways to strengthen your credit profile.
